Edibles are an easy and tasty way of getting a controlled amount of THC in your system, but it can be hard to know what kind of edibles you should start off with and how much you should take. The Growcery is a Los Angeles-based recreational dispensary with a wide selection of top-shelf edibles and flower. We’re writing this guide with all the information we wish we knew when we first started using edibles!

What is THC?

THC is a compound in cannabis(weed) that gives you the “high”. The other major compound is CBD, which is responsible for the relaxing effects others report from smoking. If you’re looking to experience a high, you’re looking for THC edibles.

What are Edibles?

Edibles are food products made with cannabinoids (weed stuff like THC). The THC from cannabis is infused into a butter or oil and used in the baking or cooking process to make the edible. Edibles come in all shapes and sizes. There are chocolate bars, brownies, gummies, and even sodas infused with THC.

How Do Edibles Work?

All you do is eat and wait for the effects to kick in. When your body metabolizes the edible, the THC will enter your bloodstream and you’ll experience the same effects you would experience if you smoked a blunt. It can take anywhere from 30 minutes to a full hour before you feel the effects, and those effects will impact you for a longer period of time than smoking.

Do Edibles Expire?

Yes! Please check the packaging before putting anything in your mouth.

How Much Should I Take?

The golden rule is “Start low, go slow.” If you’ve never experienced THC before, start with a low dose of about 5 mg(this is usually half a serving of whatever you’re eating) and give it a full hour to kick in. The “standard” dose is about 10 MG. Always consult the packaging, budtenders, or a doctor to find out what an appropriate dose is for you. You can always eat a little more, but you can’t un-eat a brownie.
